Our white oak tree has been 'not well' for a few years. When the first leaves come out in the spring they come out all crinkled and wrinkly. The second set of leaves sometimes come out all right but there have fewer leaves than usual on the tree. While Spike was at work in Powell, he talked to a tree guy and so when the tree guy was in Lovell he came over to take a look. Sure enough when Spike sprayed the yard four years ago to kill the gnats, he killed all the lady bugs as well. The lady bugs apparently eat the mites and aphids that are now hurting the tree.
Here is the guy spraying our oak. This tree is about 70 feet tall and I wondered if he got clear to the top. I am sure he knows what he is doing. We are going to try to get some more lady bugs in about a month and see if we can get our old 'eco-system' back.
