Jacob's Award and the End of the School Year!

 Jacob was awarded the President's award for Educational Excellence at an awards assembly today at school.  What a little smarty pants!
He also finished a fourth grade science project a few weeks ago.  His project was finding out what type of sugars ants like best.  He figured that since his research told him that honey was actually sweeter than the other types of sugar then ants would like that best.  He was proven wrong.  Ants like normal sugar the best.  They didn't like the Splenda or the brown sugar either.

Here is our last cub scout pack meeting before we close up during the summer.  They are blowing a ping pong ball around the table, trying hard not to let it come off on their side.

Spring Awards Banquet!

 

 Here is Sparky after the Awards Banquet.  He received All-conference and All-State in Wrestling, along with a state Champion award.  He also lettered in Track. I love how the Booster club makes posters of each athlete to show off and take home.  There were a couple of pictures that I will need to scan into the computer.

 Here is Spark with his cousins, Kim, Susie, Amanda, and Erin.  They got awards in Basketball and Track. These kids are all amazing athletes and deserved all the recognition they got.

Lovell Girls are Champions for the second straight year!

Lovell won the Class 2A girls championship at the Wyoming State High School Track and Field Championships on Saturday, notching its second consecutive title and showing the rest of the 2A schools why they're already the odds-on favorites for a third.
Three Lovell athletes -- Karen Koritnik, Kim Shumway and Susie Shumway -- combined for 84 individual points, and then grouped with Alyssa Geiser to score 10 more by winning the 1600 relay.
Those 94 points alone would have been enough to give Lovell the championship. By 24 points.
"We kind of knew we had it in the bag," Geiser said. "After regionals, we knew we had it."
The scary part for the rest of 2A is that Koritnik was Lovell's only state-qualifying senior.
The Lovell girls won by 46 points over second-place Lusk. Kim Shumway won the 200, 400 and 1600 -- events that ran back-to-back-to-back on Saturday afternoon -- while Koritnik added a first-place finish in the 300 hurdles to help Lovell salt away the championship.
Lovell coach Joe Koritnik said he challenged his team not only to win the 2A championship but to put up times and marks to challenge any team in the state.
"Those are the things that drove them to excel as much as anything," he said.
"They came here wanting to set their mark on the entire state, and they really did."
He also praised the work of his star freshman, Kim Shumway, who won four gold medals over the span of about three hours on Saturday afternoon.
"You got to really admire what she did," he said. " ... Not too many kids could have done that [in the short time span]."

The boys team took third this year.  Next year we get some new coaches with different goals and areas of expertise so I am looking for the boys to take a Championship too.  Mark ran in the 4 X 400 relay. He ran a great leg.  I forgot to put the memory chip in my camera so I need to get some pictures from other people to show off this fantastic Lovell team.  I am hoping that more kids will go out to be a part of this.

Regional Track Champions!

Mark, Cody, Dino and Kaleb ran the 4 X 400 relay and took second.  They each ran a great leg.  I was so proud of how hard they worked.

Both the boys and girls teams took their respective team titles!  What a great day for the Lovell Bulldogs!

He's a Hitter!

Jacob got his first hit in baseball! Last year he didn't ever hit because it was his first year and was trying to hit (or not get hit) off of twelve year olds.  This year the league changed some things up and now he is hitting against 10 year old pitchers. Much safer and easier!  He was quite proud of himself and even got another hit into the outfield the next up at bat.  I think his confidence level went up and he will be able to hit every game!

Here he is coming into home.  I like the way he is concentrating so hard to hit the plate.  It makes me smile! In his game tomorrow he gets to pitch.

LHS Prom

Mark and Leslie went to Lovell's Prom last night and they both looked great. The theme for Prom this year was "An Evening in Paris'.  Maybe for Mark is should have been, 'An evening in Edinborough.'  Their day started out with some four wheeling and some paint ball wars.  After that they had dinner at Ballard's house in Byron.

Here is Mark looking pretty darn good in his kilt.  After Prom they went bowling and Mark got home about two in the morning.  I think they both had a great time.  There were four couples who went together.  Darren Ballard & his date, Kenneth Moncur & his date, Mark & Leslie and Collin McArthur & LeeAnn Winterholler.

Happy 90th Grandma Grant!

Happy Birthday to Marie Grant!  Marie is 90 years old today and we had a big birthday party for her yesterday.  She had tons of cards and most of the cards had a handkerchief inside.  If you know her, you know that she always has a hankerchief tucked away nearby.

She is Spike's mother and the best mother and mother-in-law in the whole world. I think that the thing that I love and respect the most about her is that she is so non-judgmental.  She accepts everyone into the family and makes then feel welcome and loved.

Just a quick review.  She is the mother of 12 children, one of whom died in infancy.  My Spike is 11th of the 12.  She has 59 grandchildren and I am not sure right now of the count of the great-grands or the great-great grands.  Lots and lots.  We love her lots and wish her a very happy 90th birthday!!!
